Carlo Cavaliere – Chief Executive
Carlo Cavaliere

Having obtained an Honours degree in Economics and Business Administration in 1990, Carlo began his insurance career with a major composite insurer, performing both technical and marketing roles.
 
He joined Congregational & General in 1993 in a development role, which later expanded into overseeing agency, marketing and operations. In 2003, Carlo was appointed Business Development Director, moving on to the role of Chief Executive in 2005, leading the Company in delivering its strategic objectives. He is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute and Chartered Insurer. In his capacity as Chief Executive, Carlo is also a Trustee to the Company’s salary pension scheme.

Ian Campbell – Financial Director
Ian Campbell

Appointed to the Board in October 2008 as Finance Director, Ian has a degree in Mathematics. After starting his career in manufacturing and qualifying as an accountant, he joined the board of NEXT plc subsidiary Club 24 (now trading as Ventura) as Finance Director in 1991. Here he led several joint ventures and acquisitions, and ran the subsidiary businesses typically as Executive Chairman. As the profits within the company grew, his role within the business widened to include a variety of disciplines. 
 
In 2000, Ian joined a venture-capital-backed, start-up business Link Financial as Finance Director. This business grew to become one of Europe’s largest purchasers of distressed consumer debt. Ian was primarily involved in pricing and completing
acquisitions, re-financing the business as well as the financial aspects of foreign
subsidiaries.

Martin Scott – Technical Director
Martin Scott

Starting his insurance career in 1979 at Prudential, Martin progressed through a variety of claims and underwriting roles, joining Congregational & General in 1993 as Underwriting Manager. Over a number of years Martin has developed the use of technology as a tool to improve customer service within the Company. Martin achieved ACII qualification in 1987 and gained Chartered Insurer status in 1996.

He was promoted to Technical Director and became an FSA Approved Person in 2003. In addition to taking a strategic role to develop the business, Martin has responsibility for Underwriting, Claims and Reinsurance.

David Collett – Chairman
David Collett

Qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 1968, David has spent over 40 years working in the financial services industry in various senior management and directorship roles. His experience is wide-ranging, encompassing finance, IT, legal, human resources, and sales and marketing responsibilities.
 
From 1990 to 2003, David was Managing Director of Congregational & General. He retired in June 2003 when he took on a non-executive role and was appointed Vice Chairman. He was then elected Chairman of the Board in December 2006. 
 
David has a number of roles outside the business, including being a Trustee of the
holding company, the Congregational & General Charitable Trust, and the Treasurer and
Trustee of the Ripon Cathedral Development Campaign.

Harry Driver – Non Executive Director
Harry Driver

With over 40 years’ experience in the insurance industry, Harry was appointed to the Board in 2006. He is a former member of the Executive Committee at Royal Sun Alliance, where he held a number of roles including Divisional Managing Director, Head of Risk and Head of Technical Matters.

In addition to his role at Congregational & General, Harry is a Non-Executive Director at Personal Assurance plc and Personal Group Holdings plc.

Stephen Lockley – Non Executive Director
Stephen Lockley

Stephen was appointed as an independent non executive director in December 2009.
 
With more than 20 years experience working in the financial services sector, Stephen is global Chief Financial Officer of VisionFund International, the microfinance arm of World Vision. Prior to starting his current role in 2010, he was a partner at corporate finance advisors Wyvern Partners in London for 4 years, having previously spent 12 years at Arbuthnot Banking Group PLC, in a number of roles including Group Finance Director, Chief Executive of Private Banking and Chief Executive of Investment Banking.
 
Stephen is also a Non-executive Director of EuroDekania, an investment fund specialising in debt capital markets, and a Trustee of international charity Mission Aviation Fellowship.

Barry Pollard – Non Executive Director
Barry Pollard

Barry was appointed to the Congregational & General Board in 2002. He has many years’ experience at senior level working in a wide range of roles at ICI Fibres, including production support and management, strategic planning, and international sales and marketing.

Barry launched a new career as a mentor and coach to Chief Executives in 1994 under the umbrella of TEC International, now Vistage. He developed the business in Scotland, Northern Ireland and the North of England.

Robert Wade – Non Executive Director
Robert Wade

After qualifying as a solicitor in 1968, Robert joined Booth & Company, Leeds. He progressed from leading the Commercial Property Department to later being appointed Senior Partner. He has acted as a consultant on some of the largest retail property developments in the UK and Europe. In 1997, Robert joined Swayfields Group, initially assisting in financing and co-ordinating legal affairs and went on to become Chairman in 2007.
 
Robert was appointed to the Congregational & General Board in 2001. His other interests include music and he is currently Chairman of Leeds Festival Chorus.
